Lone Star College student: ‘We wish we could carry guns’

Authorities are continuing to investigate a mass stabbing on the campus of Lone Star College near Houston, TX during which at least 14 people were injured two seriously.

One student, in an interview with the local Fox New affiliate KRIV, said he wished that state law allowed adult students to carry guns on campus.

“We wish we could protect ourselves with guns and stuff,” the unidentified student said. “We wish that the law would let us carry guns because we’re legal adults and carry guns on campus to protect ourselves but so far all we have to rely on is God, but we’d love to have God and the law on our side.”

There was no immediate motive for the attack, according to Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia.

He could not identify the type of weapon used, whether it was a knife or some kind of cutting instrument. One witness described it as an X-acto knife, which is commonly used in art classes. The suspect, Sheriff Garcia said, is a student at the college.

Campus police, sheriff’s deputies and even some Texas Rangers responded to the attack, he indicated during a press briefing.

Fox News reported that “at least two students tackled this guy.”

Campus carry by legally-licensed adult students has been the goal of Students for Concealed Carry, a national group that was founded on the day after the deadly attack at Virginia Tech. Campus officials across the country have fought against such provisions for adult students, but in Utah and Colorado, students are allowed to carry, at least on some campuses. Anti-gunners are working to undo that.
