David Hogg, who co-founded March For Our Lives in the aftermath of the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., is reportedly vying for the position office chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Hogg rose to prominence as a gun control proponent after being identified as a survivor of the shooting, which claimed the lives of 17 students and adults. Now 24, Hogg has graduated from college and has lso founded an  organization called Leaders We Deserve, which “that focuses on electing young people to local and national public office,” according to NBC News.

Following his candidacy announcement, Hogg told Fox News he had been criticized for telling the DNC it needs to reach out to young male voters, who apparently threw considerable support to Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 election. Trump and Republicans who will control Capitol Hill are far friendlier to the Second Amendment than Hogg’s Democrat allies.

Hogg, who reportedly worked for the Kamala Harris campaign, told reporters he had raised concerns about recruiting young male voters.

He was quoted by NBC stating, “Moving forward, we must have a renewed focus on our youth outreach in all states and territories to rebuild our coalition after the massive shift to the right among young voters this election.”

He was reportedly critical of some of Harris’ campaign staffers for being “almost blasé” about losing to Trump, who Hogg considers a danger to democracy.” He also was critical of the fact that Democrats raised and spent “an absurd amount of money” and still managed to lose the White House.

Hogg told reporters he has emailed all 448 active DNC members and is “booking follow-up conversations” as part of his campaign strategy.

He was alarmed that so many younger voters had shifted from backing Joe Biden in 2020 to giving their votes to Trump in this year’s election.

According to NBC News, candidates for the DNC chair “include Minnesota party chair and DNC vice chair Ken Martin, Wisconsin party Chair Ben Wikler, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and New York state Sen. James Skoufis.”
