More new flixed and folding blades coming from top firms

Hunters, anglers, backpackers, and armed citizens almost invariably have some kind of knife in their pocket or on their belt, and this year will see more new blades coming from some of the top names in knives.

Spyderco (spyderco.com) has announced the Hungarian Folder Clipit, featuring a CTS XHP blade with a long, straight spine and upswept cutting edge. It allows onehand opening, has full stainless steel liners and polished G-10 scales. The blade is 3.63 inches long and the knife weighs 4.3 ounces.

Another Spyderco entry is the Karahawk, a folder featuring a saberground VG-10 stainless steel blade that measures 2.35 inches. It has twin skeletonized stainless steel liners and black G-10 scales, plus a solid stainless back spacer.

From Browning (browning.com) come seven new Featherweight models in fixed or folding versions. The series includes a fixed drop point, semiskinner and guthook, and both large and small folders, a Big Game folder and a multi-blade with scissors. All Featherweights feature hollow-ground AUS-8 stainless blades.

For tactical knife fans, Browning’s Black Label Battle Bowie might have some appeal. It’s got a fixed full tang 8-inch hollow-ground stainless steel blade with a laser-etched finish. The handle features black carbon fiber scales, and it comes with a Blade Tech sheath with Tek-Lok belt clip.Fossil

There’s a new collaboration between Duck Commander, Buck Commander and Kershaw (kershawknives.com) that will put fixed and folding models in circulation this year. Selections include a machete and some accessories, and there will also be a series of kitchen cutlery.

Columbia River Knife & Tool (crkt.com) has announced a pair of fixed-blade knives called the Obake and Synergist.

The Obake Model 2367 has a 3.64- inch hollow ground clip point blade finished with a titanium nitride gray coating that is acid-etched. It was inspired by a small Samurai knife called the “Kwaiken.” The new Synergist has a 3.63-inch hollow ground double-edged spearpoint blade made from stainless steel with a satin finish. Weighing only 3.6 ounces, the Syndergist measures 7.63 inches and comes with a black leather sheath.

The popular Bowie design is back in the Ontario Knife (ontarioknife.com) line for 2014.

Dubbed the Spec 5 Plus, it has fulltang construction, a 10-inch blade made from 1095 carbon steel that is SHOT Show 2014 Preview More new flixed and folding blades coming from top firms 0.25-inch thick, and it is actually back by popular demand. It features a Kraton handle and a tough nonreflective powder coat finish. It comes with a rugged sheath.

HallMark Cutlery (hallmarkcutlery.com) has announced several new knives, including the Razorhoof folder. It has a 4-inch blade made from 8c414 steel with a G10 handle, thumb stud and pocket clip.

Also in the lineup is the Yokai, with a 4-inch modified Tanto blade and coyote brown textured G10 handle. Closed, the Yokai measures 5 ½ inches.

A third entry is called the Persian, with a 4 ¼-inch blade.

Lansky Sharpeners (lansky.com) will be celebrating their 35th anniversary in 2014 and will continue their tradition of sharpening tool innovation by introducing a number of brand products at the 2014 SHOT Show to help users maintain an “edge above the rest.”
