Dan Mitchell, owner of Sporting Systems in Vancouver, Washington—a plaintiff in a federal lawsuit challenging provisions of gun control Initiative 1639 in the Evergreen State filed by the Second Amendment Foundation and National Rifle Association—has been raising funds to help pay for the legal action. During a break at a recent gun rights rally at the state capitol, Mitchell presented SAF’s Boyd Kneeland with a check for $10,000. The lawsuit is in the discovery phase. I-1639 was passed in 2018. It prohibits anyone under age 21 from purchasing a semi-auto rifle, mandates proof of safety training, and defined a “semiautomatic assault rifle” with such sweeping language that the term applies to every semi-auto rifle ever manufactured. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Tacoma. (Dave Workman photo)
