The Washington Department of Licensing will be changing the appearance of the state concealed pistol license, making it actually easier to carry in a wallet, TGM has learned.
According to the Licensing Department’s Firearms Unit, the new CPL will be “about the size of a driver’s license and can be folded in half, at the side rather than at the bottom like the current format, and laminated to be the actual size of the driver’s license.”
For many years, CPL holders have complained that the size of the folded document does not properly fit into a typical wallet card carrier slot. Things get worse when the CPL is laminated because then it does not fit well into a folded wallet.
The new CPL will be printed on a special type of paper that makes it impossible to photocopy without showing the word “Void” on the copy.
The Licensing Department was still in the testing phase at press time, but was planning a “soft launch” of the newly-sized CPL this summer. It will likely be in circulation to all issuing law enforcement agencies over the next few months.
