Politics

Trump Campaign

NRA-ILA has announced that former President Donald Trump will deliver the keynoted address at their Defend the 2nd Event in Savannah, GA. The event will be held at The Savannah Convention Center, One International Dr, Savannah, GA 31421, in Savannah, GA, on October 22, 2024. Information can be found here.

Harris-Walz Campaign

Giffords.org, the anti-gun organization’s website, has a page where they are asking for gun owners to sign up as a “Gun Owner for Harris-Walz.” As Firearms Policy Coalition (@gunpolicy on X (formerly known as Twitter)) noted on X: Surveys estimate that over 70 million Americans own guns, yet Giffords could only get 400 people to fill out an internet form with their name and email.

Second Amendment News

Setting the record straight

A thread on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Rob Romano, @2Aupdates, mentioned how March For Our Lives, the anti-Second Amendment group, reported thatthe anti-114 ballot measure in Oregon in 2022 outspent the proponents by a 4 to 1 margin. Still, the campaign finance report, listed on Ballotpedia, showed that the two Yes on 114 committees collected $3,174,982.38, while the No on 114 committees reported a total collection of $187,855.26.

State Legislation and local communities

States that are still in session: California (recess), Illinois (recess),  Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire (recess), New Jersey, Ohio (recess), Oklahoma (recess), North Carolina (recess),  Pennsylvania, South Carolina (recess), Virginia (recess), Wisconsin (recess)

Michigan: On October 10, 2024, Governor Whitmer signed House Bill 5503, creating a “tipline” to turn in gun owners for perceived violations of Michigan’s firearm storage laws. HB 5503 is an omnibus education funding bill that was amended to include the “tipline” language and swiftly passed through the legislature within hours. If you have read 1984 by George Orwell, this type of law is exceedingly frightening.

New York: As Dave Workman reported, Governor Hochul signed the following bills into law on October 10, 2024. S.7392A/A7717B, a law to allege a public nuisance has been created by the sale, transfer, manufacturing, distribution, importing, and marketing of firearms; S8589/A7717B, enhancing the current extreme risk protection order (ERPO) law;  S8479/A9862A, allowing payment processors to use firearm-specific merchant category codes for firearms, ammunition, and components;  S3340/A5873, eliminating the requirement for adding to the state registry when a temporary or final ERPO is issued; S6649/A2882, legislates that firearms dealers and gunsmiths my post warnings about suicide, domestic violence and accidental death; S7365B/A10053A, prevent the installation of a pistol converter: and S9760/A10356A, provide safe handling and storage information upon issuance of a firearms license..
