Knives on the cutting edge of new products at SHOT

Shooters and hunters all have something in common besides firearms.

They typically carry some sort of knife and probably have a few if not several at home. Thanks to some introductions on the way from knife makers, they will likely have a few more.

Browning this year will offer both tactical and hunting knives including the Black Label Decoded folder with assisted opening. It has a hollow ground stainless steel tanto-style blade and G-10 scales. It’s a liner lock model with a thumb stud on the blade.

Another Browning entry is the new Black Label Finish Line. It’s a tactical folder with G-10 scales, hollow-ground stainless blade and assisted opening. It has a thumb stud on the blade and a pocket clip.

Browning hunting models include the Long Haul Fixed and Liner Lock folders with titanium-coated hollow ground blades made from 7CR stainless steel and black injection molded polymer handles. The fixed blade model comes with a flapped nylon sheath and all models have lanyard holes in the handles.

Another new entry is the Wheelhouse pocket knife with a stainless steel blade and liner lock, black G-10 handle scales, pocket clip and lanyard eyelet. The Outdoorsman Compact Hatchet has a one-piece head with a convex ground edge.

Lastly Browning’s Devil’s Due fixed blade model with a stainless hollow ground blade that features a titanium finish. The handle is smooth marbled polymer and the blade has a full length tang. It comes with a nylon sheath.

The folks at Coast have announced a new Double Lock folder with a blade flipper for easy opening. This liner lock model features ball bearings for smooth operation and an anodized aluminum handle with checkered wood insert. It also includes stainless steel liners for strength and it hits the scale at 4 ounces.

The Double Lock has a stainless steel blade and allows one-hand opening. The handle has a deep pocket clip.

Spyderco always has new models and this year is no exception. There’s a new version of the Dragonfly 2 Lightweight with a hawkbill blade made from H-1 steel with a full serrated edge. It has a lockback mechanism and fiberglass-reinforced nylon handle.

The newest Native 5 model has a fluted carbon fiber handle with threaded stainless steel inserts that allow the attachment of a four-position pocket clip for right- or left-hand carry. This lockback model has a CPM S90V stainless blade with a flat grind.
