More states eye permitless carry

Posted By GunMagStaff On Monday, March 2, 2015 12:00 PM. Under Legislative Update

Permitless carry, sometimes called “constitutional” carry and previously known as “Vermont” carry, seems to be gathering steam across the county, somewhat like the “shall-issue” phenomenon grew over several decades.

Permitless carry proposals are under consideration in Idaho, Kansas, New Hampshire, South Dakota and Utah, and some have already survived committee or one-house votes, but none has yet cleared their respective state legislatures completely.

In Idaho, there is a campaign to launch a vote referendum if both the House, which has been reluctant to tackle the question in the past, and the Senate do not act this year.

Passage of permitless carry laws in more states would probably reduce the total number of permits issued but increase the total number of citizens legally carrying concealed firearms.
