Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose father and uncle were both murdered by assassins, insisted during a Twitter Spaces conversation he will not be disarming American citizens to prevent mass shootings, according to The Independent.

“My position on the gun control is I’m not going to take away anybody’s guns,” he reportedly stated in a reply to a listener.

Kennedy, whose father, Robert F. Kennedy was murdered by Sirhan Sirhan when he was running for president in 1986, is also the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, assassinated in Dallas, Texas in 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. He suggested banning guns would be an impossible undertaking.

“Guns, the proliferation, clearly, abets violence, but anybody who tells you that they can remove enough guns, AR-15s, by tinkering at the margins and get to the situation they have in western Europe is pulling your leg,” Kennedy said. “It’s not going to happen.”

Reporting on the Kennedy appearance is interesting, almost as if the media is trying to discredit him. The Independent identified him as an “anti-vaccine advocate.” Yahoo News labeled him an “anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist” who has “long promoted the discredited theory that vaccines play a role in causing autism.”

Reuters simply called Kennedy the “long-shot Democratic presidential hopeful,” as though his campaign doesn’t really stand a chance.

Yahoo News reporter Ariana Baio also wrote, “The 2024 presidential candidate said he understands firsthand the heartbreak many Americans experience from gun violence because his father and uncle both died due to guns,” when guns weren’t responsible, only the two men using them.

Kennedy entered the race to replace Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket in 2024. His name recognition and his age could make him a formidable challenger to the aging Biden.

According to Reuters, Kennedy also came out in defense of free speech, noting, “I think if we don’t protect free speech at all costs, we don’t have a functioning democracy.”
