Seattle Mayor Mentions Gun Control In Trump Complaint

City of Seattle

Buried in a statement from Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan in reaction to President Donald Trump threatened federal funding for the Jet City and three other Democrat-controlled cities he called “anarchist jurisdictions” is proof that even with her community in dire straits, she hasn’t abandoned gun control as a pet issue.

In a statement published by KOMO News, the ABC affiliate in Seattle, Durkan stated, “America’s cities will not be distracted by his actions. We will continue to work to bridge divides, rebuild our economy, address gun violence and system and systemic racism, and make our cities more just and equitable.”
Seattle’s track record for addressing gun-related crime over the past five years has been dismal. While ratcheting down on law-abiding gun owners and adopting a special tax on firearms and ammunition sales, the city’s murder rate has gone up. There were also two anti-gun rights initiatives (594 and 1639) that were supposed to prevent violence.

There were 18 homicides in Seattle in 2016, the first full year that the gun and ammunition tax were in effect, according to Seattle police data. The following year (2017), that number jumped to 27 slayings, and in 2018, Seattle logged 31 murders, according to Seattle police data. Last year, Seattle saw 28 killings, and that number has already been eclipsed by the number of murders by early last month.

In addition to Seattle, the cities of New York, Portland and Washington, D.C. are in the president’s crosshairs. All have experienced surging violence and unrest. All are controlled by far-left Democrat mayors and councils.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio threatened to take Trump to court.

In a joint statement, the mayors of all four cities tried to create the impression that the president will be committing a crime by taking action on federal funding.

“President Trump needs to wake up to the reality facing our cities — and our entire country — and realize he is not above the law,” the statement said, according to Fox News.

In terms of law-breaking, all four cities seem to excel, while apparently trying to blame the president for their problems. Portland has endured more than 90 straight days of unrest, with a mob descending on Mayor Ted Wheeler’s residents, forcing him to actually move.

Earlier this summer, Durkan’s home was targeted for a protest that was “joined by” Socialist Councilwoman Kshama Sawant.

There were two murders associated with the so-called “CHOP” (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) zone in Seattle, and in Portland, a member of the Patriot Prayer group was gunned down last weekend.
