The recent announcement by the Second Amendment Foundation that it is teaming up with veteran Second Amendment strategist Chris Cox and his public policy/public affairs consulting group, Capitol 6 Advisors, could make for some interesting times ahead.

Cox, who spent 25 years at the National Rifle Association—including 18 as executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action—has been a frequent analyst on national news programs and was a primetime speaker during the 2016 Republican National Convention. He has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Daily Caller and other national publications. He got his start in Washington in the 1990s as a senior legislative aide to a veteran Member of Congress, managing issues relating to the judicial system and criminal justice reform.

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb is already looking ahead to what SAF will be able to accomplish as the group moves toward its goal of “winning firearms freedom, one lawsuit at a time.”

Cox is joined by Cap6 Vice President David Lehman, an expert in strategic communications, data research and crisis management, as well as a proven ability in designing, developing and executing successful corporate, political and grassroots campaigns; Vice President Phil Hoon, formerly Senior Director of Corporate Relations at the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, the largest bipartisan Caucus on Capitol Hill; and Cap6 Coalitions Director Scott Christman, a government relations and public policy professional with more than two decades in federal and state government relations, grassroots advocacy, public affairs/crisis communications and non-profit association management.

“We’re bringing Cap6 aboard in an advisory capacity on a number of different projects,” said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “SAF has been the nation’s leading force in the Second Amendment litigation world. As we look towards the future, I am humbled and excited to have another major influence in the Second Amendment sphere, along with his talented team, available as a resource to help me implement my ideas and shape SAF’s trajectory for the next 50 years.”

“We are excited to work with Adam Kraut and the team at SAF,” said Cox. “The Second Amendment faces unprecedented attacks and America’s law-abiding gun owners deserve real and transparent leadership. I’m proud to deploy my decades of experience advancing the cause of freedom alongside a team I respect and trust. SAF’s best days are ahead of it and law-abiding gun owners everywhere depend on it.”

SAF focuses on education and litigation. At last check, the organization had 50 lawsuits in progress in various venues across the country.
