In the world of self-defense handguns there’s often a question of whether you need a high-end pistol to protect your life and the lives of your loved ones.

The basic answer to this question is that your chose self-defense handgun must be reliable, accurate, and well-suited to your specific hand size and needs. A high-end or affordably-priced gun that works for one gun owner may not work for another. However, some guns manage to live comfortably in both worlds. Enter the Wilson Combat P320.

The SIG P320 has enjoyed widespread popularity almost since the moment it was first introduced to the market in 2014. And now that some time has passed it comes as no surprise SIG has decided to allow outside manufacturers to put their own spin on the design. This is made easier by the fact that the frame – grip module – of a P320 isn’t the serialized component; the serial number of a P320 is found on the chassis. It was a wise choice by SIG, one that first made it possible to create interchangeable grip modules with no serialization concerns and now makes it simple enough for outside manufacturers to design their own P320 grip modules.

When Wilson Combat went to work creating their own spin on the P320, they decided to make a number of shooter-friendly upgrades. Right out of the box you see what appear to be significant aesthetic changes but as it turns out nothing the company did was only for appearances. The gun is easily recognized as a Wilson Combat design thanks to the classic starbust emblazoned on either side of the grip. Aggressive texturing over the front and backstrap of the grip complete the look while also facilitating a firm grip even with wet or dirty hands.

The trigger used in the WCP320 remains a SIG offering – it’s the flat-faced XFULL – but that part can be upgraded to a Grayguns custom trigger. Capacity is 17 +1. Other features include the slide being machined with the Wilson Combat X-TAC pattern and a black Diamond Like Carbon finish being applied to the slide and chromoly barrel for superior durability.

This is a high-quality gun that cycles reliably and performs beautifully at the range. Shooting from the bench at 25 yards the average five-shot group size hovers at 2 inches. It’s also proven itself effective on varmints when loaded with Hornady Handgun Hunter 9mm +P 115 grain Monoflex. Never let it be said a carry gun cannot double as a hunting handgun on appropriately-sized game.

Whether you’re in the market for your first carry gun or interested in growing your existing handgun collection the Wilson Combat P320 is well worth a closer look. It carries with it years of proven service under the SIG banner as well as the artistic-yet-functional touches gifted by Wilson Combat. In addition, it fits a wide range of hand sizes which recommends it to a broader market than many pistols can claim. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed.
