4 Dead in WA Stabbing Rampage; Deputy Shoots Suspect

A deadly knife attack in Washington State Tuesday left four people dead. One gun rights group says this underscores the fact that guns aren’t the problem, evil intent is, and criminals will resort to any kind of weapon to commit mayhem. (Image is for illustration purposes only.)

A 32-year-old Washington state man, apparently violating a no-contact order, fatally stabbed four people before a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy arrived and fatally shot him Tuesday morning.

In a state where anti-gunners have been pushing increasingly restrictive gun control laws in recent years, the incident serves as a stark reminder that such laws do not prevent deadly crimes, according to one gun rights organization which coincidentally is headquartered in the Evergreen State.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has issued a statement on the tragedy, noting, “Evil intent in the hearts of violent perpetrators, not the lawful ownership of firearms, is at the core of the state’s crime problem.”

“All the gun control laws enacted over the past few years in Washington state did not prevent this horrible crime,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Thank heavens an armed deputy arrived to put a stop to this rampage before even more people might have been injured. Once again, a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with an evil heart.”

According to KOMO News, the Seattle-based ABC affiliate, witnesses reported one of the victims was stabbed “in the middle of the street in front of multiple onlookers.” Three of the victims died at the scene and a fourth died after being evacuated for treatment.

Seattle’s KING 5 News, the NBC affiliate, is reporting that the suspect was still stabbing people when sheriff’s deputies arrived. Shots were fired, bringing the rampage to a halt. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The protection order may not have actually been served at the time the stabbing began, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. The newspaper said deputies were actually en route to serve the order when they were notified of the attack in progress.

“Evergreen State gun prohibitionists have been gaslighting the public for too long,” CCRKBA’s Gottlieb observed, “but what happened Tuesday morning should put an end to that nonsense. Guns are not the problem, violent people are. Whether they misuse a firearm, knife, crowbar, automobiles, or some other weapon, the actions of these evil people should never be used to justify restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens.

“The fact this rampage occurred is an outrage,” he concluded, “but it reinforces what we’ve been saying all along. Passing restrictive gun laws will not prevent violent crime, and thinking otherwise is fatally flawed. The suspect in this case didn’t use a gun, he used a knife, and now four people are dead. Today’s silence from the gun control crowd is deafening.”
