Gavin Still Hasn’t Got His Gun Thanks to CA Laws

Gov. Gavin Newsom

Last summer, California Gov. Gavin Newsom was gifted a Sig Sauer P365-Xmacro pistol when he appeared on Shawn Ryan’s podcast in Tennessee, and now, nine months later, he still hasn’t taken possession of the pistol due to Golden State gun control laws.

At least, that’s the report in the New York Post, which went through all of the red tape problems through which Newsom must navigate in order to get the gun back into his hands. Provided he wants it, that is. As the Post explained, here are the steps Newsom must make:

  • The pistol must be shipped form a federally licensed firearms dealer in Tennessee to a licensed dealer in California.
  • Newsom must obtain a Firearm Safety Certificate and to do that he must take a class and pass a test with at least a 75% score.
  • He must have a state-approved lock box or some other approved locking device.
  • He must fill out the necessary paperwork (Federal Form 4473), pass a background check and endure the state’s 10-day waiting period.

Second Amendment activists noted last summer that Newsom would quickly learn just how difficult it is for an average citizen to purchase a firearm in California. So far, the liberal Democrat governor apparently hasn’t bothered to fulfill all of the requirements, so perhaps he really doesn’t want the handgun after all.

Two years ago, Newsom announced his plan to push a constitutional amendment requiring background checks, waiting periods and age requirements to buy firearms. The idea was a non-starter, especially when it became clear the proposed 28th Amendment would have essentially nullified the Second Amendment.

Newsom is viewed by many to be a leading candidate for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. As California governor, he has signed gun control measures, including an 11% excise tax on firearms and ammunition, as noted by the Post, and a ban on the sale of new Glock pistols.
