R.K. “Bob” Campbell, a longtime contributing editor at TheGunMag.com has just published his first novel titled “The Old Hunters,” and according to his description, it has something for fans of thrillers and guns.
Campbell describes his novel as “a great big shoot out with some hairy and dangerous guys.”
“The main protagonist, Sheriff Wilburn Roberts, carries a Magnum, the chief deputy a .38 Super and the tracker is the meanest SOB in fiction history,” Campbell quipped.

An online review reveals the novel involves a “series of brutal murders” in a small community called Red Mountain, New Mexico. Cambell told TGM via email he’s been working on this story for about ten years
Published under the pen name Virgil Caldwell, “The Old Hunters” involves not only a multiple homicide investigation, it also includes cattle mutilation. The story takes protagonist Sheriff Roberts on a wild ride. He’s described as a 70-year-old lawman with decades of experience and a duty to protect his town.
Independently published, The Old Hunters spans 273 pages and is published in paperback format.
Campbell is an accomplished gun writer who has contributed to TheGunMag.com for several years. His firearms reviews have been a staple of this publication, and its predecessor, GUN WEEK, for a long time.
