A man convicted for his part in a 2020 fatal rush hour shooting in downtown Seattle that left one woman dead is out of prison after serving only three years, and the public is outraged.
KOMO News reported that William Tolliver, who had been sentenced to 48 months in prison for his part in the Jan. 22, 2020 shooting resulting in the death of 50-yerar-old Tanya Jackson. His associate, Marquis Tolbert, was acquitted of a murder charge but was subsequently convicted of federal gun and drug charges.
After the shooting, both men fled to Las Vegas, where they were apprehended a week later. At the time, and more recently, the public learned they had 65 previous arrests and four felony convictions between them.
At trial, it was determined the shooting was due to a gang feud. Tolliver had opened fire on a crowded downtown street.
Tolliver had been jailed but was released pending trial and allowed to stay at his grandmother’s home under electric home monitoring. He had been ordered to stay away from guns and have no contact with any witnesses or co-defendants. Published reports show he was taken back to jail after allegedly threatening someone with a gun, according to MyNorthwest.com.
Tolliver ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and third-degree assault.
Social media erupted with fury when Tolliver’s release was reported this week. Many people are predicting he will be back behind bars again for more crimes, and others observed anti-gunners have used such crimes to justify more gun control laws, even though Tolliver clearly violated existing gun laws at the time of the fatal shooting.
One person responding to the reported release stated, “This dude will shoot someone else, and the libs will scream for more gun control and take away more of my rights. how about we control guns by putting criminals who use the in prison for a very long time.”
