A devastating “eat-your-own-words” 10-page fact sheet, prepared by attorney Kostas Moros, director of Legal Research & Education at the Second Amendment Foundation, and posted on social media is hammering leaders of the gun prohibition movement with their own documented quotes, reminding readers about just how wrong they have been with their reaction to gun rights advances.
Titled “The Bloodbath That Never Came,” the fact sheet features scores of doom-and-gloom quotes stacked against actual data on murder and violent crime from the FBI, and Council on Criminal Justice. Where anti-gunners including such groups as the Brady gun control group, former New York Mayor Eric Adams, former Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and the Giffords anti-gun group have been predicting more death and violence following the Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen ruling, which struck down New York’s century-old unconstitutional gun permit process, the data shows an 18.1 percent decline in homicides by 2025, along with a 9.3 percent decline in violent crime, and a 21 percent decline in homicides in the nation’s 35 largest cities.
Most embarrassing of all, the SAF Fact Sheet includes 85 predictions and quotes from the gun prohibition camp, which have proven to be egregiously off-base.
For example, in the aftermath of the June 2022 Bruen ruling, a June 23 joint press release from the Brady group, Everytown for Gun Safety, March For Our Lives and Giffords frantically declared, “This ruling will mean more guns in more places, which will inevitably lead to more tragic acts of vigilantism, gun violence, and preventable deaths.” Quite the opposite has occurred.
Brady chief counsel and vice president of Legal affairs Jonathan Lowy declared, “This decision is radical judicial extremism at its worst, and Americans will die as a result.”
A June 23, 2022 Giffords release asserts, “The gun lobby wants a world where everyone is carrying guns, but more guns in public will only escalate gun violence, leading ever more people to feel unsafe in their own communities. Some of those people will then buy guns, which in turn will further escalate the cycle of violence.”
The Fact Sheet also features quotes from then-President Joe Biden, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and assorted other members of Congress, all made on June 23 in reaction to the high court’s Bruen ruling.
There are other quotes in reaction to passage of permitless carry (aka “Constitutional Carry”) legislation in various states from2021 to 2025.
According to Moros’ Fact Sheet, “Crime trends have many causes. This document does not argue that any pro-Second Amendment reform caused the decline in violence. It shows that the specific predictions of rising violence did not come true.”
Moros told TGM via email the Fact Sheet “was just something I did on my own and posted on Twitter, wasn’t really planned in terms of a rollout.” However, these things often take on a life of their own, and in this case, quoting leading anti-gunners engaging in typical hysteria-based rhetoric reveals just how far from reality the gun ban crowd has moved, and could lead people to wonder what else they have been wrong about.
