Fox News and the National Rifle Association are unloading on anti-gun Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, because his re-election campaign spent “an eye-popping amount of cash on private security” over a nine-month period this year.

In a post on Facebook, the NRA declared Warnock “is the epitome of hypocrisy.”

“While championing his anti-Second Amendment and ‘Defund the Police’ agenda,” NRA said, “he shelled out $360k in a matter of months on private security. Since 2020, he’s spent millions.”

Warnock’s expenditure of “approximately $360,000” went for the security services provided by Executive Protection Agencies, LLC, according to Fox News. The company is based in Atlanta and offers both armed and unarmed security.

At its website, the company notes, “Armed Security Officers are the perfect solution for clients in need of armed and non-uniformed protection. EPA Security off-duty officers can be a useful and critical form of protection for the following types of clients:

  • Corporate Executives
  • High-Profile Celebrities
  • Political Figures & Community Leaders
  • High-Profile Events & Meetings
  • Domestic & International Travel

According to Fox News, “Warnock has regularly pushed gun control in Congress, including co-sponsoring legislation to ban assault weapons and require universal background checks, voting for federal red flag laws, supporting stricter penalties for those who purchase firearms from sellers not legally allowed to do so and stricter licensing requirements for sellers, among other initiatives.”

The Washington Free Beacon reported back in 2020 that Warnock “has a history of anti-gun activism dating back to at least 2013 and extending even to messages delivered at the pulpit.”

In a separate report, also from 2020, the Free Beacon revealed that the anti-gun-rights Brady PAC had purchased $100,000 of air time attacking Republican Kelly Loeffler, an expenditure which ultimately helped Warnock.

In an April 2021 report, Fox News referred to Warnock’s “long history” of supporting gun control. In that report, Fox noted, “During one of his sermons in 2014, he mocked ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws, which exist for gun owners to protect themselves and use deadly force without having to try to retreat if they fear for their lives.”

In a September 2024 Op-Ed, Larry Keane—senior vice president and general counsel at the National Shooting Sports Foundation—took Warnock to task for comments which the headline described as “beyond loathsome.”

Keane wrote about Warnock’s appearance on  NBC’s Meet the Press, during which he state, “The problem is that we have politicians in our country who are beholden to the gun lobby. And either based on ambition or fear, they go to work every day doing their bidding while the gun lobby lines its pockets with the blood of our children.”

It boils down to a “guns (to protect) me but not for thee” scenario.
