The Giffords gun prohibition lobbying group on Wednesday announced it is endorsing Sen. Amy Klobuchar in her race to be Minnesota’s next governor.
The announcement was posted on social media, where gun rights activists quickly reacted with negative remarks about Klobuchar, who declared her candidacy to succeed disgraced Gov. Tim Walz. He has bowed out of a re-election effort amid an ongoing scandal over alleged fraud which some reports say has cost taxpayers billions of dollars.
According to Fox News, Walz vowed during an interview with MS Now, “I will never run for an elected office again. Never again.”
So Klobuchar, in an obvious effort to keep Democrats in control of the Minnesota governor’s office, quickly declared her candidacy. The Giffords endorsement says all that needs saying to Minnesota gun owners and Second Amendment activists.
In its message, Giffords declared, “We’re proud to endorse Amy Klobuchar for Minnesota governor! As a US Senator, she led the fight to close the boyfriend loophole and prevent abusive dating partners convicted of domestic violence from purchasing guns. Senator Klobuchar has worked across the aisle to champion commonsense gun safety reform, and will continue to fight for a safer future for all as Minnesota’s next governor.”
But gun owners quickly weighed in, with remarks such as
“Just the fact that Giffords endorsed her tells me the Constitution is in danger. A gun grabber endorsed by gun grabbers…no good can come from this!”
“She didn’t have my vote before, but if Gifford endorsed her, she extra doesn’t have my vote.”
In addition to endorsing Klobuchar in Minnesota, the Giffords group also endorsed Democrat Jocelyn Benson in her race to become the next governor in Michigan. Benson currently is the Michigan secretary of state. She has been in office since 2019.
