There’s another Lipsey-Smith & Wesson collaboration making headlines this week, an exclusive steel-framed version of the famous Model 36 J-frame 5-shot revolver in .38 Special, dubbed the Field Ethos “Tropical” edition.
According to a new video from Lipsey’s, featuring Jason Cloessner, senior vice president of Production Development, this concealable revolver features a S&W Performance Center-tuned action with a smooth double-action pull. The hammer is bobbed, it’s got a gold bead front sight, U-notch rear sight cut, and it wears a handsome polished blue finish. Like other Lipsey’s-S&W guns, there is no internal locking device so there is no key lock on the left side of the frame.
The gun comes fitted with a set of premium Tyler Gun Works walnut boot grips, and it weighs a very comfortable 19.5 ounces. The Field Ethos logo is etched into the right side of the frame, on the sideplate.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Smith & Wesson and Field Ethos on this exclusive revolver,” Cloessner said. “The features on this model were proven out on the range and not the board room — a carry gun that has a retro look and feel while delivering the performance today’s shooters demand.”
In a short video on the Lipsey’s Facebook page, Cloessner says the new gun “just begs for lead hollowpoints and a leather holster.”
Field Ethos President Ron Dan was also eager to unveil this new project, according to a report appearing at The Outdoor Wire.
“It’s hard to beat a classic Chief’s Special for a carry gun. We were able to work with the great teams at S&W and Lipsey’s to develop the exact Model 36 we would all want to carry. From the Bastogne grips to the gold bead front sight and the factory bobbed hammer, this gun has as much of a spot on your display shelf as it does in your holster.”
