While the Trump administration has been easing the restrictive gun control measures installed by the Biden administration, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, is doubling down on her anti-gun agenda by announcing a series of state actions which will keep Empire State gun owners facing restrictions.
According to WTEN News, Hochul, State Police Superintendent Steven James and several gun prohibition advocates held a press conference to announce the new restrictions. WTEN reported that state troopers “will patrol noncompliant firearm sellers, scrutinizing dealers who’ve sold weapons eventually recovered from crime scenes.
“They’ll shut down vendors who are inspired by the federal rollbacks to ignore state mandates, like requiring mental health screenings for buyers,” the report said.
Hochul contends that the Trump administrations efforts to ease restrictions will lead to more crime.
WGRZ quoted Hochul boasting that she is proud to have the “toughest state-level gun laws in America.”
The Center Square is reporting that Hochul’s proposals “are likely to face pushback and legal challenges from Republicans and Second Amendment groups who argue that New York’s toughest-in-the-nation firearm laws haven’t prevented gun violence.”
The Democrat governor engaged in typical anti-gun rhetoric. She issued a statement declaring, “Time and time again, we see the Trump administration concede to the gun lobby, and these rollbacks are yet another giveaway that will have devastating and dangerous effects across the country. While the federal government paves the way for increased firearm trafficking and putting guns in the hands of those who should not have them, New York State is taking action to blunt their efforts by bolstering our nation-leading gun laws and committing to closing the loopholes that put lives in jeopardy.”
