Fox News is reporting that Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general at the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, is promising “a lot more action” by the DOJ to protect Second Amendment rights.

In a message posted on ‘X,’ Dhillon writes, “The right of law-abiding American citizens to keep, bear, & use commonly known firearms is fundamental, and this Justice Department has a lot of 2A work planned, in addition to what we’ve already done!”

🚨Great news — I’m excited to announce the new 2A section of @CivilRights!

Perhaps not surprisingly, only Fox News and the Times of India are reporting Dhillon’s announcement. Other media outlets are so far silent.

In her message, Dhillon said she has been working on the Second Amendment section since arriving at DOJ several months ago.

In her video message on ‘X,’ Dhillon said she is “really excited about this.”

“For the first time,” she stated, “the DOJ Civil Rights Division and the DOJ at large will be protecting and advancing our citizens’ right to bear arms as part of our civil rights work.”

She said the new 2A office will focus on such things as exorbitant fees and lengthy delays in some jurisdictions for concealed carry permits. She noted the DOJ has already sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for this.

According to The Grio, critics described as civil rights and racial justice leaders are slamming Dhillon’s announcement, and this new DOJ focus while allegedly reversing its long-standing role of “investigating claims of racial discrimination and other social justice issues.”

The Grio quoted Angela Angel, senior advisor for Black Lives Matter PAC, insisting, “The Civil Rights Division was never designed to be a customer service desk for constitutional amendments. It was built to protect people from discrimination, voter suppression, unconstitutional policing, targeted government abuse, and state-sanctioned inequities.”

Grassroots gun rights activists could easily argue that their Second Amendment rights have been subjected to “unconstitutional policing, state-sanctioned inequities and government abuse.”

The Grio also contended that President Donald Trump has shifted the DOJ focus toward his priorities, “like his anti-trans sports agenda, anti-Christian bias, and antisemitism,” as if those are not significant issues.

By contrast, Fox News quotes attorney Oliver Krawczyk, who specializes in Second Amendment litigation. He calls the DOJ’s new 2A focus a “welcome change.”

“For years, individuals and grassroots organizations have had to fight unconstitutional firearm regulations alone, and so federal help will always be appreciated,” Krawczyk reportedly stated. “However, this DOJ should not ignore its own complicity in violating the Second Amendment.

“Rather than resisting ongoing legal challenges to 20th-century federal gun control laws, this DOJ should be working with pro-gun organizations to make the most of President Trump’s limited time in office,” Krawczyk added.
