Republican congressional candidate Brandon Herrera has announced one of his top priorities if elected to Congress this fall: “Constitutional Carry” nationwide.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, Herrera mentioned this while speaking at a leadership summit in Iowa sponsored by Gun Owners of America. The event celebrated GOA’s 50th anniversary.
Herrera, known online as “the AK Guy,” is widely known as a strong Second Amendment proponent. He is running to replace former Republican Congressman Tony Gonzales, described by the Texas Tribune as a “moderate Republican. Gonzales resigned from office earlier this year over a sex scandal involving a staffer.
Herrera reportedly has more than 4 million subscribers to his YouTube channel, and he is described as “a prominent online influencer.”
So when he commented about national permitless carry, the remark got national attention. Democrats will probably use it against him during the campaign, as they desperately want to flip the 23rd Congressional District in Texas to Democrat, in an effort to recapture the U.S. House.
According to the Express-News, Herrera declared, “I want to see nationwide constitutional carry” during his remarks at the GOA event. It is a notion which causes anti-gunners and their Democrat allies in Congress to cringe.
Twenty-nine states have adopted “Constitutional Carry”—which translates to carrying firearms without any kind of license or permit—and North Carolina appears to be on the brink.
Herrera reportedly believes national constitutional carry is an achievable goal, but only if Republicans retain the House.
Should Democrats take control, they most likely will bog down the legislative process for months in an effort to impeach President Donald Trump. In such a politically-charged environment, business on Capitol Hill could literally grind to a halt.
The November election will be critical, and a Herrera victory in November would be good news for gun owners.
Already, Democrats are working hard to demonize Herrera. The Texas Tribune noted Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA), the Evergreen State liberal who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, has already released a statement describing Herrera as having a “disturbing history of extremism, violence, and antisemitic rhetoric.”
Herrera has reportedly out-raised his Democrat opponent, San Antonio attorney Katy Padilla Stout, a former teacher, by almost 2-to-1. But the race is far from over, and Democrats appear willing to spend a lot of money in the 23rd District in Texas in their goal to turn the state purple, if not blue.
