A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that both the Democratic and Republican parties, as well as both parties’ presumptive presidential nominees, continue to be significantly unpopular with voters even as some of the country’s more controversial institutions are above water, NBC reported on June 27.
The most disliked of all was presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who was viewed unfavorably by 60% of the electorate, while only 29% offer a positive rating of the GOP standard-bearer (-31 rating). The presumed Democrat standard bearer, Hillary Clinton, was not far behind, with only 33% of voters giving her a favorable rating compared to 55% who gave her a negative rating (-22).
For the Republican Party, it’s 28% positive 48% negative (-20). The Democratic Party is slightly less unpopular at 37% positive and 43% negative (-6).
By comparison, about half—48%—of Americans view Planned Parenthood favorably, while 29% give the group poor ratings (+19).
Forty-two percent of voters see the National Rifle Association in a positive light, while 36% disagree (+6).
The most popular institution NBC News and the Wall Street Journal polled was the FBI, which got good marks from 48% of voters and poor marks from just 16% (+32).
Interestingly, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) got a better rating than President Barack Obama, both relatively popular. The poll gave Obama a favorability vote of 48% positive to 41% negative, a +7, while Sanders, who had then still declined to exit the Democrat presidential race despite Hillary Clinton’s crowning as the presumptive nominee, had a 43% positive rating to a 34% negative rating (+9).
