Book Review: AMERICA’S COMMANDOS

Posted By TGM_Staff On Thursday, November 28, 2019 02:00 AM. Under Product Spotlight

AMERICA’S COMMANDOS by Leroy Thompson.  Published by Pen & Sword Books Ltd., 47 Church Street, Dept. TGM, Barnsley, South Yorkshire S70 2AS.   Price:  $19.95.   Available from Amazon and other bookstores.

This 72-page softbound, magazine size volume carries the sub-title of U.S. Special Operations Forces of World War II and Korea. It is lavishly illustrated with well captioned black and white period photographs, plus a few full color views.  (Page 2 shows a Paramarine in jump smock and armed with a M1911 holstered pistol on his right hip and Reising SMG, with pistol grip stock, across his chest resting on his emergency chute.  The Marines were about the only service to use the Reising; the code-talkers were usually armed with Reisings also.

Except for the four pages of text at the beginning of this slim volume it is all captioned photographs.  (If a picture (photo) is worth a thousand words, then this volume is enormous.)  Very interesting.
