Authorities in North Carolina have charged an 18-year-old in connection with the grisly slaying of his mother in the Pilot community near Zebulon, according to WNCN News.
The suspect, identified as Oliver Mauricio Funes Machada, is reportedly in this country illegally from Honduras. When he was arrested, he was found carrying his mother’s head in one hand and a large knife in the other, the news report said.
Published reports said Funes called police following the attack.
The victim, Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machada, was 35.
At the time of the attack, two younger children were reportedly in the home and a third was at school. Machada’s husband was away at work.
The gruesome crime comes at a time when there is much discussion at the national and local levels about illegal immigration and what can be done to stem the flow. Some advocates of so-called “sanctuary cities” avoid talking about crimes committed by people in the country illegally.
This is one crime that cannot be blamed on so-called “easy access to guns,” either.
