Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, who represents Florida’s 13th Congressional District, is enjoying the viral reception of a photo she posted on “X” recently, showing her carrying a rifle and sidearm, apparently while she was serving with the Oregon Air National Guard.
According to the Washington Times, the image “set social media buzzing.”
Right now, Luna is locked in a tight race with Democrat challenger Leela Gray, who is leading several Democrats, according to a Democrat party internal poll, showing them in a “statistical dead heat.” However, it is a long time until Nov. 3. But the “dead heat” may not really be an accurate depiction, since Luna is ahead of Gray 41% to 39%, and Luna holds a stronger lead among Independents with name recognition, while she is reportedly training Gray 39-29 percent, according to Florida Politics.
Luna is an Air Force veteran, having served from 2009 to 2014, the Washington Times reported. She received the Air Force Achievement medal.
According to Public Policy Polling, Luna’s popularity is lagging with only 36 percent approving of her job performance while 42 percent view her unfavorably.
First elected in 2022, Luna is one of several GOP members of Congress that Democrats want to unseat this fall in order to regain House control. Many fear once they take the House, Democrats will spend the next two years trying to impeach President Donald Trump.
As reported by Wikipedia, Luna currently serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. She was born in Santa Ana, Calif.
Wikipedia also says Luna appeared on the March 2020 cover of Ballistic magazine, earning the title of “DC’s Next Warrior.” In February 2023, she was among members of Congress who wore AR-15 lapel pins.
