Only a week after narrowly securing a victory in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Michigan, reports of a now-hidden YouTube video reportedly show progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed suggesting the Second Amendment be replaced by a right to health care.

Fox News is reporting the discovery, although CNN—in a report blocked by a paywall—was among the first to reveal the existence of the video, which was originally posted April 6, 2023.

In a separate CNN report about the network’s KFile investigation of El-Sayed, it was reported, “more than 100 videos on his YouTube channel…appear to have been made private before he launched his campaign.”

“In one video,” CNN reported, “he floated replacing the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms with a constitutional right to health care. In another, he dismissed GOP concerns about the security of the southern border.”

In a Washington Times article covering the controversial video statement, the newspaper noted, “Retaining Michigan’s Senate seat is crucial for Democrats’ efforts to gain control of the Senate, as they must net four additional seats in November to do so.”

El-Sayed won the primary against moderate Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens by a single percentage point. He will now face former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers in the general election, and the Washington Times noted a recent Cook Political Report forecast saying the race is a toss-up.

Last week, The Hill also reported on the “re-surfaced” videos, noting the YouTube podcast showed El-Sayed “suggesting that lawmakers replace the Second Amendment with a constitutional right to healthcare and encouraging the public to rethink the way it celebrates Independence Day in clips that are now deleted.”

In the video, according to the various news reports, El-Sayed asks, “What if we tweaked the Constitution, amended the amendment, and instead of the right to bear arms, we change it to the right to have health care?”

The flap was significant enough that an El-Sayed spokeswoman identified as Roxie Richner told Fox News Digital, “Abdul respects the Second Amendment, and also believes that access to healthcare is a right.”

However, such assurances in the past by other Democrats have invariably given way to anti-rights votes once candidates are in office. It is known as the “I support the Second Amendment” ruse.

In the Fox report, another video transcript—this one from May 26, 2022—El-Sayed is reported to have “made the argument that the Second Amendment does not apply to individual Americans and only applies to a regulated militia.

“He claimed that the stipulation written in the key constitutional right ‘couches the entire idea of not infringing on the right to bear arms in the idea of maintaining a well-regulated militia,’” Fox News is reporting.
